We’re reaching the end of the year 2015 and it makes so much sense to prepare for the year ahead and set New Year’s resolutions.  If going back to school is on the top of your list then this article is for you.

As much as it is satisfying to get that education and get paid at the end of the month, juggling between work and studying is not child’s play. Imagine this, you had a very long day at work in and out of meetings and you still have an evening class to attend. Realistically speaking this is manageable, but requires a lot of determination and being able to prioritize. Here are 5 tips to help you.

Good time management skills

Having to work and study at the same time requires you to have good time management skills. Having to meet work deadlines and being able to study through all of that, not forgetting the duties you also fulfil at home. All of this needs to fit in your daily schedule. That is why it is important to have a daily and weekly plan that you will follow and stick to it to ensure that you are on track with all your duties.

Set clear and reachable goals

Whenever you are about to start something whether at work, school or home. Set clear goals that you want to achieve at the end of the day, having these goals will motivate you to keep pushing even when the going gets tough. You might be studying something outside your work field, but with set goals you will definitely know how that qualification will help you in future. Don’t do something for the sake of doing it.

Try keep the balance

We understand that you have to juggle between work and books, but it is also important to keep balance. You need to make time for yourself and relax, you also need enough sleep. Don’t be too hard on yourself with all work and no play. Reward yourself for all the hard work every now and then.

Be part of a study group with classmates

Connecting with other classmates on a weekly basis keeps you motivated and can also help when preparing for tests or during assignments. It also helps to get other people’s views on the section you covered besides the lecturer. Set a time to meet up with study mates once in a while outside the classroom. It helps ease the load.

Have a set work station at home

Most of the time you will be studying at home and you need to have a comfortable workstation away from everyone. Where it will be you and your books. Having such a set area will allow you to concentrate and get most done during your study session at home.

Hitting two birds with one stone is really one of the hardest things but a lot people are doing it which means it is manageable. Wishing you all the best in getting that education and a paycheck at the end of the month, besides you’re never too old to get that education.
